However, this latest pair has poor quality laces which are already beginning to fray after only 3 or 4 uses. This is the second time I have bought this outstanding style of shoe. I have arthritis in my feet and I find this style extremely comfortable.
This is the fourth pair of very similarly-styled lace-up wider-fitting shoes I have purchased on-line from DB.
In the past I have been delighted with them, even received compliments on how smart they were - but those were when two-toned or textured leathers were being used (eg Mulberry and Navy). Sadly, not available now.
Alas, this most recent pair are not of the same quality as the earlier ones.
For example, the tongue is no longer the same piece of leather as the main front upper piece - so there is a rather ugly line of off-white stitching right across the middle (which may or may not be less conspicuous after polishing).
But the main, most serious disappointment is the LACES. . .
These new ones are a full 20cms shorter than the old ones; they are also of a much thinner section - quite 'stringy', with poor 'grip'. It is now not possible to tie them up tightly enough to give a good fit and they tend to slip; nor is it possible to secure the bow with a knot on top.
Analogies about 'ships and hap'orth of tar' come to mind . . .
I need these shoes to support weakened tendons in my feet - they were recommended by local podiatry clinician.
I have to use my own surgical insoles in them.
Indeed I have worn no other shoes for more than five years now.
So I am faced with a canundrum . . .
Do I return them and try to find some alternative manufacturer? Or do I put up with what feels like 'second-best', and set about searching for some more appropriate laces?
At the same time I will be 'nurturing' my existing pairs (one of which is now very worn . . .) in the hope that they will outlive me.

These shoes fit me perfectly after removal of both insoles, even with ortho inserts whereas if they didn't I would be in pain. There is sufficient room in the toe box and it is great that there are no seams there. They look suitably casual but smart enough to wear to meetings etc. Expensive, even in the sale, but worth it. My two niggles are with the laces. I replaced them immediately with slightly longer flat ones. Also the air bubble sole. I would much rather have a thick rubber sole with good grip - I walk my dog in town streets a lot and as autumn leaves and winter comes I will still want to wear these shoes most days.

Lovely to finally receive shoes that are wide enough to accommodate my bunion and deep enough not to rub my hammer toe. I am wearing them every day to walk my dog and with thicker socks than usual for added comfort. My only concern is that they are a little large for my left foot without the bunion but that can't be helped and my thicker socks help pad it out. I will definitely be buying from this company again.

The previous Glossip model was better for me: your old 4-sole-widths and half sizes in length gave me a better fit over more than 10 years. I was buying 7 /4 E for left foot and 6 1/2 EE for right. Right foot thinner but leg that side longer so cannot pad right shoe with more insoles because cannot add more height that side. So trying 7 2 v for left and 6 2V for right but it's really too short!
also regret loss of cheerful russet red colour: those of us who have to wear high-lacing shoes every day for >20 years don’t want to always be in dark blacks browns or even this new equally dark burgundy !
shoes look as well made as previous ones though I wonder whether having no centre-back seam will last as long . No comment on how they wear. Too new
Still to ask cobbler whether he can stick an extra layer on this new sole structure
